Case Study House #26

In 1963, ten years after designing the Dave Brubeck home, Beverley David Thorne participated in the Case Study House Program. He designed Case Study House #26, the Harrison House, in San Rafael, California, for H. Harrison Fuller. After the house was completed, Fuller decided not to move in, and the house was sold to Gary and Renee Ketchum.

The lot on which the house was to be built was steeply sloped, and Thorne's challenge was to build the house there for the same price as a construction on a level site. He created a "space platform" and built the main areas of the house below the carport, avoiding significant excavation. The four-bedroom, two-bath home was a demonstration project for Bethlehem Steel Company and Twentieth Century Homes.
